Overcome the obstacles while learning language

Learning language is one of the most useful thing to do due to the globalisation and people with many language knowledge is always needed. On a personal side you can learn not only a new language but also a new culture. However it doesn’t always go as easy as you might imagine. I’m also someone who speak 5 languages and you might think I’m a genius but in reality it wasn’t easy. I grew up with Vietnamese and Hungarian. I got to learn English since I was 10 and for some reason it was extremely easy for me to learn it. I understood the grammar right away and remembering words…

    Are the grades that important?

“School is about the grades.” This is what most of the people think when it’s comes to school. Parents expect their children to bring the best grades home and to be the top student at school. If the children accomplish it, they feel proud, if not they feel shameful. Teachers prefer students who have good score to the one who don’t. Therefore children are convinced that they can only accomplish their goals if their grades are good. However, is it true? Personal experience I used to think the same. My parents always asked me where I stood in the school ranking. Fortunately Hungary doesn’t have that system, so I didn’t…

What if you realize you are studying a wrong major?

It’s been a long time since I wrote a new post. Fortunately my exams are all finished so from now on I will continue to write again. As I just finished with my exams a question aroused in me. “Do I want to continue to study here?” The problem is not the studying itself but the reason and the way of studying. Day by day I question myself what I truly want to achieve in life and how I can do that the fastest and most effective way. Everytime the answer is to study higher but if I look at the education system it doesn’t seem like it can really…

    Why do we study?

When it comes to the word ‘study’, everybody associate it with going to school that gives unpleasant feelings. And if we think about it, why do we actually go to school and study if we don’t like it at all? I asked some of my students why they study and go to school and at first their answers were all the same. “Because I have to.” “Because my parents force me to.” Then when I push them to think further they start to give more reasonable answers that affect them. “Because I want to have a good job, earn good money, buy house, car. I don’t want to be poor.”…

    What is university really about?

After 12 years of compulsory education we can choose whether we go to university or not. Nowadays, due to the education system, it is questionable if university is worth it or not. Some people say it’s a waste of time, some say they need a degree to prove their knowledge. And there are people who really want to go to higher education to gain a profound knowledge in what they like to do. No matter which type you are, in this post I will share why it is worth to go to university based on my experience. How I ended up in university When I had to choose university after…

It’s better to suffer now than later

Most of the time we feel bad when we are being rejected. In relationship, at work or wherever. We start to suffer and feel sorry for ourselves. Since the effect is so strong the person who should reject, he would rather avoid it than facing it. He feels bad and doesn’t want to hurt another people. It might sound good but this is one the most terrible things that we do to each other. Because it creates so many misunderstanding. Here is one example to it: I teach personal finance at a non-profit organization, called Invisible University and since our trainings are free for participants, they don’t always come. We…

How to evaluate the score of the children at school?

Last time I wrote about the subjects and how they should be taught so the children see the sense of it and know how to use it when they are out to the real world. In this one I will share my idea about how school can evaluate children in a way that they don’t feel pressure before exam. At least not that much. During my school year, I was scared to go to school when I didn’t do my homework, when I forgot my textbook or when I didn’t study and was afraid teacher would call me out to give oral presentation about the previous lesson or write a…

How each subject should be taught?

In my opinion every subject has its own sense, it’s just the way of teaching should be different. The last post was about this. In this post I will share my vision about each subject how it should be taught at school. I see so many of my friend, finishing school and still don’t know what they want to do. And children asking me why they have to study this and that. Not to talk about our everyday life. Some don’t know how to write cheque, CV, how to buy house, manage money or their time. It would be better to make school more practical in a way that when…

    Are the school subjects useless?

Yesterday I met one of my student. While we were talking he asked me a question. “Do you think if History is useless?” “No.” – I answered shortly and he was surprised by it. “Why?” – he asked me again. “Because if you don’t know a history of a country, you can’t understand its people.” – I saw the acknowledgment in his eyes, that he found sense in the answer. He reminded me about my past when as a young school girl I asked myself the same thing. “Why do I need to go to school? Why do I need to study this?” I even told myself I would never…
