How to travel cheap in the USA?

Well, USA is definitely not the cheapest country for travellers, but it’s not impossible to travel cheap either. During my 2-week trip I spent around 2700 dollars, but if I spent more time and effort I could have saved much more. Below you can see what I spent: Ticket to travel: Budapest-Washington: 520 USD Washington – Las Vegas: 320 USD Las Vegas- Los Angeles: 20 USD (by bus) Los Angeles-Budapest: 425 USD Taxi (from airport, bus station to the hotel) Las Vegas: 8 USD Los Angeles: 22 USD El Segundo: 17 USD Hotel Las Vegas: 291 USD (in resort for 5 nights) Los Angeles: 76 USD (in hostel for 3 nights El…

    Post – travel depression

Hi everybody! It has been 3 days since I arrived home and I wanted to see how my mood change after being at home again, that’s why I only write this post now. As always I had a quite serious post travel depression, mainly because I have to adjust back to the family’s life. When I was travelling alone I could do things whatever, whenever, however I wanted, but now all that changed and I need to adjust to it. What happened exactly? After I arrived home on 5th January, I met my friend and I felt extremely tired and sleepy. I guess I had jetlag. Later that day I…

Day 14 – 4 harsh truth I learned from this trip

3rd of January, this day also came. Today I packed my suitcase in the morning after waking up and started to arrange my work at home. I left the hotel at 11am and went to the bus station. I realized there was a Vietnamese restaurant there, so I had breakfast there. The smell of Pho, rice noodle, was so good I wished I ordered that, but ate vegetarian Bún instead. Then I went back to the bus station. It was the Beach Transit Bus which I supposed to take when I came, but the bus stop was out of service. I wanted to confirm whether it was really like that…

Day 13 – Ocean effect aka what I got from this trip

Today I didn’t do anything. I woke up around 8:30am and left the hotel at 11am for El Segundo Beach. Listening to the sound of the ocean was really calmy and comfortable. The sun was shining and it was really hot. I also walked up to Manhattan Beach where people were surfing. From there I walked around and tried to find souvenir shop or place where I can buy gift but didn’t find anything. As it was really hot I went back to the hotel to take a shower and have a rest. Around 3:15pm I went out again because I wanted to see the sunset. The weather cooled down and…

Day 12 – Getting scared like never

Today I woke up and went down trying to figure out when we have breakfast and it turned out everyone eat separately whatever they wanted. I ate two bowl of porridge. Then I wrote 1 page of thesis. As the main parts are done, now I need to do more research I start to feel lazy. But of course I have to do as much as I can here, so at home I will have less work and I can focus on other things. Around 12 o’clock the master gathered all of us together and we did the mantra, meditation and he gave us a lecture. Like yesterday everyone could…

Day 11 – Hollywood sign and New Year in Anaheim with inspiration

31st December, today I checked out the hostel. During my stay in hostel I got to know two Thai girls and it was really nice having people to say goodbye to. They were really kind and friendly. They invited me to go to countdown with them, but I already had schedule for the day. I went to the airport to rent a car. It wasn’t a complicated process but the price surprised me a lot. On carrentals.com I reserved the car for 32 dollars, but in the end with the insurance, GPS and I guess tax it turned out to be 228 dollars. The difference was quite big. But then…

Day 10 – China Town, Little Tokyo, Santa Monica and getting used to LA

Today in the morning I was kinda lazy to wake up as I was woken up at night so I wanted to sleep as much as possible. But when I stay in hostel I always want to stay outside of it as much as possible so despite of not wanting to wake up I still left around 10am. After buying bubble tea, I got on the metro and went to Chinatown. I thought there will be a crowd, but surprisingly there wasn’t that much people. Still of course Chinatown is Chinatown the shops are near to each other, the way they decorate the goods looks dense. There was a lot…

Day 9 – Rodeo drive, Beverly Hills, Grove and getting lost

As yesterday I searched the places on the map and took picture of it, today I found my way easier. I woke up at 7am and left at 8am. First I took the bus 20 wanted to go to Rodeo Drive, until I arrived to the terminal and realized I got on the wrong bus. I asked the driver where I could take the bus going back, he laughed at me but he understood that I was far away from home for holiday. He showed me where to wait for the next bus and even gave me a transfer ticket that I can use for the whole day. I couldn’t…

Day 8 – How not to sightsee in Los Angeles

Yesterday after waiting at the bus station for 10 hours I finally could get on the bus heading to Los Angeles. Of course it didn’t go smooth. I didn’t know I had to check-in my luggage so right before getting on the bus the worker told me to do so. When I was about to put my luggage in the bus, the same person told me to give my ticket to the driver. I felt so blunt. The bus departed and went all along the highway from where I could see the Strips. I already missed Las Vegas. A bit later I fell asleep and couldn’t move until I arrived…

Day 6-7 – Leaving and summarizing Las Vegas

Day 6 – Preparation As yesterday I only slept 3 hours after coming back from Grand Canyon, I decided to take another lazy day. This is my last full day at the hotel, so I started to arrange and pack my suitcase. After eating a fancy breakfast, I went out to do laundry. Arriving to the laundromat I was totally lost with all the washing machine in different size, drier and I just couldn’t figure out how this worked. I asked the worker there, where I can buy washing powder and she showed me a machine where I had to put quarter dollars in to get the product. After that…
